Chapter 8: Terminal Server Problems
8-14 Troubleshooting Guide
ABC
The following is an example of a port setup for V.32 and V.42 type modems with a CSMIM2 and revision 9.0
or greater software. Port 16 is used in this example.
port 16
set port type dial_in
set port speed 115200
set port autobaud n
set port mode auto_adapt
set port control_lines both
set port input_flow_control eia
set port output_flow_control eia
(Also enter the next command on revisions below 9.2.7.)
set port bidirectional_modem y
reset 16
Correct the modem and CSMIM2 settings as necessary so both are set the same, then try dialing in from a
terminal.
Did the expected display appear on the terminal?

Call Cabletron Technical Support.
Congratulations, the problem is solved.
With the CSMIM2 in the Admin Mode, enter the commands (example is for port 16):
port 16
show port
The port parameters are displayed. In this example, it is the port 16 parameters.
Check for the following:
- Autobaud is set to N
- Port speed is set as high as possible. The highest port speed is dependent on the modem (refer to the modem
manual for the maximum speed) and the CSMIM software revision. For MicroCS, MODMIM, and CSMIM2 with
rev. 8.1.1, the maximum speed is 57600 bps; with rev. 9.0 or greater, the maximum speed is 115200 bps. The
CSMIM maximum speed is hardware set to 38400 bps and the CSMIM-T1 maximum speed is 115200.
It is recommended that you set the CSMIM2 to its maximum port speed and then set the modem speed accordingly.
Set the DTE line of the modem so that it runs at a fixed rate.
To program the modem, set the CSMIM2 port to “slave”. The following example shows the code to do it assuming
the port is 16.
port 16
set port mode slave
reset 16
quit
Try to Telnet to the port.
The following is an example of how to do it:
If the CSMIM2 address is 134.144.35.60 and the printer is on port 16, your port command would be:
telnet 134.141.35.60 5016
The following response may vary depending on your system software:
trying
connected to 134.141.35.60
escape sequence is ^]
Enter the at modem command.
