8.5 Printer Is Not Printing
Is the printer known to be a working printer?
YN
Start a printer self-test (refer to the printer documentation for instructions), or try printing a file by sending a print
command from a VMS or UNIX host.
Did the printer do the self-test?
YN
There is a printer problem. Refer to the printer documentation for troubleshooting instructions and maintenance
support.
Check the wiring from the printer to the CSMIM2 to make sure that the printer is connected to Port One of the CSMIM2 using
a straight-through 8-wire cable and a Cabletron Systems adapter (Part Number 9372074).
Is the wiring okay?
YN
Correct the wiring. Then try printing a file.
Did the printer print the file?
YN
Check the CSMIM2 port parameters.
Make sure mode is set to:
slave
The bit speed of the port is the same as the printer serial interface speed.
The flow control (X-ON/X-OFF or CTS, RTS) of the printer is the same as the CSMIM2 port. The CSMIM2 defaults to
software flow control: X-ON/X-OFF.
Are the parameters correct?
YN
Correct the parameter settings as necessary and reset the CSMIM2 port.
Try to Telnet to the port.
The following is an example of how to do it:
If the CSMIM2 address is 134.144.35.60 and the printer is on port 16, your port command would be:
telnet 134.141.35.60 5016
The following response may vary depending on your system software:

Type in a line of text.
Press CTRL-J.
Press CTRL-M.
Did the printer print that line of text?
YN
Call Cabletron Technical Support.
Escape from Telnet to port by pressing CTRL-] and then entering the
close at telnet command. Try sending
a line of text and print command from the host to the printer.
Did the printer print the text?
YN
Problem with host spooler. Call Cabletron Technical Support.
