Troubleshooting Guide 7-3
7.2 Connected Two Hubs Together, but Cannot Pass Traffic Between Them
Two hubs (standalone or modular) are connected together, but they will not pass traffic.
Check the LINK LEDs of the device ports that are used to connect the two hubs.
Are their LINK LEDs lit?
YN
Check the cable used to connect the two hubs to ensure that it is the correct cable and it is not defective. Refer to the
hub or device documentation for details about cable connections between two hubs. Typically, a crossover cable must
be used to connect two of the same type devices (such as two hubs). Crossover cables (Part Number 9360034-x, where
x is the length) are available from Cabletron Systems.
Is the correct cable being used?
YN
Replace the existing cable with a correct known good cable.
Did the LINK LEDs light?
YN
Call Cabletron Technical Support.
Are the ports that the cable is connected to, enabled?
YN
Enable the ports.
Can traffic pass between the two hubs?
YN
The problem may be with one of the ports. Try connecting to a different port on either or both of the hubs. Make sure
that both of the ports are enabled.
Can traffic pass between the two hubs?
YN
Call Cabletron Technical Support.
Congratulations, the problem is solved.
